How to upload your first Instagram Reel
Think of a Reel as something a person should understand before they know you. A specific idea, an audible voice and a clear cover are a good place to begin.
Prepare a phone-friendly version
Export a video that plays correctly on your phone. If you edited outside Instagram, keep the project and a clean final copy without another platform's interface elements. Check that text stays inside the vertical crop.
Choose one idea for the opening. Showing a result and then explaining how you reached it can be a useful storytelling exercise; you could also begin with a genuine question. Pick something that represents your content, not a dramatic line the video never answers.
Edit and publish the Reel
Choose Reel
Open Instagram's content creation options and select Reel. Choose a video from your gallery or use the available recording tools.
Check the edit
Adjust the crop and clip order. Check the level of your voice, music and any text you have added.
Prepare the post
On the next screen, review the cover, write a caption and check the audience, tagging and distribution options shown.
Do one last check
Watch the preview and share when it is ready. If something is unfinished, return to editing or save a draft when that option is available.
Care for both picture and sound
The cover should help someone recognize the piece on your profile. Keep essential information away from edges where a different crop might remove it. Read the caption too: a concrete sentence about the video usually gives more context than a disconnected list of hashtags.
Do not raise the music until listening to your voice becomes hard work. If you use someone else's audio, review permission for that use. Finding a song in an app does not mean every purpose or platform is covered.
After sharing
Open the Reel from your profile and check its cover, captions and sound. Verify any mention or destination you refer to. If someone asks a useful question, save it as a possible topic rather than trying to fit every answer into one video.
Keep your original files outside the app draft. Organized source files let you export again, fix a line of text or adapt the piece without depending on the project staying available on your phone.

- Speech is understandable and important information is not cropped out.
- You have checked where and with whom the Reel will be shared.
