How to schedule your Instagram posts and Reels

Scheduling lets you prepare a post calmly and separate creation from the moment you share it. It is useful when several pieces are ready but you do not want to publish them all at once.

Check whether the option is available

In-app scheduling is for professional accounts. If you have a personal account, first consider whether a creator account suits you and understand the privacy change. Do not switch just because a tutorial tells you to.

Available options depend on the account and content. Some features cannot be combined with scheduled posts. If a particular tool is essential to the piece, check that it is available before planning your whole week around it.

Schedule a finished piece

  1. Prepare the post or Reel

Open Create, choose the format and add your file. Finish the caption and edit before continuing.

  2. Open additional options

Find More options or Advanced settings, depending on your device. Enable the post-scheduling option.

  3. Choose the date and time

Check the details shown. Return to the previous screen and confirm scheduling rather than immediate publication.

  4. Find scheduled content

Open that section from your profile menu. Confirm that the piece is listed and use its available options if you need to make a change.

A draft is not a scheduled post

A draft holds an unfinished piece. Scheduled content has a confirmed future publication. Before closing the app, check which state you saved. Adding a time to your own calendar does not schedule the post either.

Try the process with a non-urgent post first. Check the time on your device and any timezone shown in the interface, particularly while travelling. Once the post is live, open it and verify both the caption and file.

Leave room to change the plan

If a piece stops making sense before its scheduled time, revisit it. A calendar should not force you to publish outdated content. Keep source files and a note of each piece's status: pending, reviewed, scheduled or published. That small habit makes handovers and revisions much easier.

If a post does not appear, read Instagram's notices and check whether the account or publishing setup changed after scheduling. Do not schedule several copies to compensate for a failure you have not yet identified.

  • Final caption, cover and file.
  • Date and time checked.
  • The piece is visible in scheduled content.
  • A reminder to review the result after publication.
